INTAS
INDUSTRIAL AND TERTIARY
PRODUCT TESTING AND
APPLICATION OF STANDARDS

Goals and activities

The following key activities were carried out within the INTAS project with relation to the energy efficiency of large fans:

Activity 1 (within Work Package 2)

The first project activity was to analyze the existing testing avenues in Europe and the rest of the world, and explore test standards, facilities, procedures and methods already in place for large fans.

The result of this activity was a deliverable containing a database and report on relevant technical standards and legislation framework.

Activity 2 (within Work Package 3)

The next project activity was to identify, establish and classify current laboratories for testing fans (in EU and worldwide).

The identification of laboratories was divided into the following categories:

  • Independent labs
  • Manufacturer’s labs
  • Extra – EU labs

Various methods were used to identify the laboratories, including an internet search.

Alongside with the identification of the laboratories a questionnaire was developed. The questionnaire among other things contained questions about:

  • Level of performance and accreditation
  • Size/capacity testing limits
  • Uncertainty of testing
  • Testing costs

The result of this activity was a deliverable containing a database about test labs suitable for energy performance of fans providing for each lab range for in lab testing and in-situ testing.

Furthermore, the result of this activity was a deliverable containing a report on the laboratory selection process for fans.
